Training for Community Health Educators

March of Dimes, Native American Connections and Native Health have partnered to offer a train the trainer workshop. The Coming of a Blessing Training Session is designed to train educators to provide prenatal education that embraces the unique culture of American Indian families. The three organizations have recognized a growing need for parental education and are hopeful that by offering classes that focus on the unique culture of American Indian Families they can reach the Native community.

The workshop will be presented by Carol Arnold, PhD, Associate Professor of Nursing at Texas Woman's/ University and Member of March of Dimes American Indian/Alaska Native Women's Committee. Carol specializes in prenatal care and pregnancy-related health beliefs among American Indians. The session will be very beneficial for Community Health Representatives and Women and Children's Health Educators.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Native American Connections focuses on improving the lives of Native American individuals and families through culturally appropriate behavioral health, affordable housing, and community development services. Since 1972, the organization has been changing lives, strengthening families, and building healthy communities. First beginning as a small grassroots organization operating one program for Native American men in recovery from substance abuse, the organization has now grown to own and operate fifteen sites throughout Central Phoenix, offering a continuum of affordable housing and behavioral health services which touch the lives of over 5,000 individuals and families each year. The Native American Community Health Center, Inc. (dba NATIVE HEALTH) is a private, nonprofit agency providing primary medical, dental, behavioral health and WIC services for urban Native Americans. The Coming of a Blessing Training session will be held at the Native American Community Service Center. Registration is $200 and includes participation for three trainers from your organization, one full set of curriculum and lunch for all attendees.
