On December 10th 2009, Native American Connections celebrated the official grand opening of Catherine Arms Apartments, 28 units of affordable housing in downtown Phoenix. NAC began redeveloping Catherine Arms Apartments in 2008 which helped to revitalize the community, creating several construction related jobs. The apartments were completed and opened just in time for the holidays.
The Catherine Arms community is located within walking distance of the Metro Light Rail, Arizona State University's Downtown Campus and many other educational and employment opportunities. "With this great location we are hopeful that residents will take the opportunity to further their educational endeavors and employment goals, with this great walk to work opportunity, thereby improving their quality of lives", stated Diana Yazzie Devine, CEO of Native American Connections.
The grand opening was attended by Directors and Board Members of Native American Connections, representatives from The Arizona Department of Housing and The Housing and Urban Development Phoenix office, as well as project contractors and funders.
In the spirit of the holidays, guests were invited to bring new unwrapped toys for children living in our five affordable housing communities. NAC collected over 50 toys and thanks Adolphson & Peterson for contributing several boxes of toys for our families. NAC also thanks all those who contributed to this project for their support of affordable housing in the valley and helping to make our project successful.
