"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?"
-Martin Luther King Jr.
In 1994, Congress charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with encouraging Americans to celebrate the (MLK) holiday as a national day of service. (http://www.serve.gov/mlkday.asp)
Since then, people all over the country are volunteering on MLK Day in their communities in response to Dr. King's above question.
On January 18, 2010, Ballard Spahr attorneys and staff across the nation took part in the firm's 5th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Offices closed for the day, and employees were encouraged to use their time to serve their communities.
The Phoenix office of Ballard Spahr chose Native American Connections' Adopt-A-Room program to benefit from their time and resources. Their goal was to make the rooms at the Guiding Star Lodge special and beautiful to help ease the women's transition at this important stage in their recovery. The rooms adopted by Ballard Spahr were just that- special and beautiful!
Ballard Spahr attorneys donated new and gently used linens, towels, lamps, artwork and healthcare supplies to dress up the Guiding Star Rooms. The group also collected funds from other members of their staff which were donated to NAC to provide additional needed room items.
MLK Day of Service strengthens communities and empowers individuals. NAC is blessed to have benefited from the generosity of the Ballard Spahr Phoenix office and is grateful for their contributions.
