NAC Encourages Native American Community to Fill Out Census
10.06.09
The 2010 Census will be delivered to your home on April 1st. The 2010 Census Complete Count Committee is encouraging Native Americans to fill out their census form and to pay particular attention to Question #9, the question regarding race. Here's is what you need to know about question #9: 1) Native Americans will need to mark the American Indian check box. 2) People of mixed heritage may mark as many boxes as they wish. For example, if someone is of Navajo and Chinese decent, they can mark
American Indian or Alaska Native and
Chinese. 3) If someone indicates that they are
American Indian or Alaska Native, they can report which tribe they are enrolled in or want to be affiliated with in the boxes below the question. Filling out this question and indicating your specific tribe will help ensure acurate numbers when census forms are tallied. This will be important for many issues including governmental funding. Remember to check your mailboxes on April 1st!
