2005 Native American Connections Parade Announces Winners (Photo by Chet Provorse)

Phoenix, AZ – Native American Connections is proud to announce the winners of the 2005 Native American Connections Parade held on Saturday, October 8th. Native American Connections’ annual parade is one of the major events held as part of Native American Recognition Days (NARD), the Valley’s annual series of events honoring Native American people and their cultures. This year’s theme for NARD’s host of events is “Honoring Our Modern Day Warriors”.

The parade traveled from Monterey Park to Steele Indian School Park this year followed by the 2005 American Indian Prevention Coalition’s Social Pow Wow at Steele Indian School Park. There were eight categories and the three top winners in each category received a trophy. The top winners are:

CATEGORY: Performance (Dance, Bands, cultural presentation, etc.)
1st Place: Qua-Hola Singers – Qua-Hola Shield Dancers (#204)
2nd Place: Bird Singing and Dancing by the River (#203)
3rd Place: Freescale Native American Resource Group (#202)

Direct and in-kind sponsorship for the 2005 parade came from the following: Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, Salt River Project, KAZ -TV, Wells Fargo, City of Phoenix, Alternative Marketing Solutions, Courtesy Chevrolet, Harrah's Phoenix Ak-chin, St. Mary's High School and Native American Recognition Days.

Native American Connections (NAC) is a private nonprofit 501-c-3 agency founded in 1972 by Native American elders to provide a drug free safe haven with cultural support services. NAC’s mission is to improve the quality of life and communities through Native American culturally centered opportunities in health, housing, and development. NAC currently owns and operates behavioral health and affordable housing communities at twelve sites within Phoenix.
